Tamar Kay is a four-time Israeli Academy Award nominee. Her short documentary The Mute’s House was shortlisted for the 2017 Academy Award (Oscars) for Best Short Documentary and won numerous awards at prestigious festivals including IDFA, Full Frame, and Krakow Film Festival.
She is the co-creator of the Israeli TV drama Unchained (Matir Agunot), which premiered in 2019 on KAN 11. The series was selected for the Series Mania festival and later acquired by SBS Australia.
Tamar has extensive experience editing documentary films and television series, including award-winning productions such as “Arik Einstein: A Standard Love Song and Sorry for the Question – In Arabic. Her editing credits also include Ahuva Ozari – The Ringing Bells and The Elected (Hanivcharot).
She is currently developing several new projects in Israel and the United States. These include a feature-length documentary film about S.Y. Agnon for KAN 11, a narrative series titled A State at Any Cost (also for KAN 11); and Chene 3938, a scripted series developed during her fellowship at the Frankel Institute at the University of Michigan.
Tamar is a graduate of the Sam Spiegel Film & Television School. She also holds a dual degree in Psychology & Philosophy. In addition to her creative work, she teaches at the School of Architecture at Sami Shamoon College and at the Sam Spiegel.
