Roy Chen

Roy Chen is a writer, playwright and translator.

Born in 1980 in Tel-Aviv, Israel, where he lives with his wife and son.

Chen is the author of the novels Great uproar, (2023) and Souls, (נשמות Keter, 2020), which has been translated into Italian (Anime, Giuntina, 2022) and Russian (Души, Phantom Press, 2021).

Since 2007, he is the house playwright of Gesher Theater (Jaffa), where his plays are staged, among them: Someone Like Me, The Tunnel, The Odyssey, and more. Chen translated classic fiction novels and over 40 plays from Russian, French and English to Hebrew by Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Bunin, Gogol, Kharms, Moliere, Anouilh, Robert Icke, Stephen King and in 2023 he published a new translation to Milne’s classic Winnie the Pooh.

Chen is the recipient of many awards including:

Rosenblum Performing Arts Award by the city of Tel Aviv (2022)

The Prime Minister’s Prize for Hebrew Literary Works (2022)

Yitzhak Navon Ministry of Culture and Sports Award for the Preservation and Cultivation of Israeli Cultures. (2017)
