Anat Gov (Estate)

Screenwriter and Playwright

(December 13, 1953 – December 9, 2012)

Ms. Gov was born in Tiberias. She was a graduate of the Thelma Yellin High School of Performing Arts, where she majored in Theater. She served in the IDF’s Nachal Chorus.
Ms. Gov’s work for television includes:
“Zehu Ze” (Educational TV), from 1981 – 1991, “Yes, What?” (a comedy series on Channel 1), “Evening with Gov” (Talk Show on Channel 2), and “Best Friends” (a drama series for HOT)
Plays:
• Love to Death (1991, Jerusalem Khan Theater), to be re-produced by Bet Lessin Theater in 2016
• Best Friends (1999, Cameri Theater), winner of the Israel Theater Award for Best Comedy, with a run of over 700 performances. In 2013 the play was reproduced in a co-production by the Bet Lessin and Cameri Theaters
• Lysistrata 2000 (2001, Cameri Theater), with a run of over 600 performances
• Opposing Sides (2003, a collaboration of Israeli and Palestinian playwrights for Theater Heilbronn in Germany)
• Househusband (Cameri Theater), which won the 2004 Israel Theater Award for Best Comedy with a run of over 700 performances. The play is being reproduced by the Bet Lessin Theater.
• Stage adaptation of “The Troupe” (2007, Habima Theater)
• Oh, My God! (2008, Cameri Theater), with a run of over 350 performances
• A Warm Family (2009, Cameri Theater), with a run of over 450 performances
• Happy Ending (2012, Cameri Theater), with a run of over 150. She won the Nissim Aloni Playwriting Award for Happy Ending in 2011.

In 2012, Ms. Gov won the Rosenblum Performing Arts Award from the Tel Aviv Municipality.
Her plays have been published by Hakibbutz Hameuhad Publishing House.

Ms. Gov co-wrote the children’s book “Shaul The Tractor” (Kinneret-Zmora) with Gidi Gov.
She was a frequent contributor to Yedioth Ahronot’s Op-Ed column.
She co-founded “Ezrat Nashim” for victims of sexual assault.
She was active in the Israeli Initiative for Peace.
Ms. Gov passed away in 2012 after a lengthy battle against cancer.
In recent years, her plays have won global acknowledgement and success. Among the plays performed worldwide: Best Friends – China, 2010; Oh, My God! – Italy, 2011; Oh, My God! – Argentina, 2009; Argentina and Uruguay, 2012; scheduled to be produced in Holland and Sweden; the play “Happy Ending” is scheduled for production in Hungary and France. A translation of “Oh, My God!” to German has recently been published by Pegasus.
